Wi-Fi allows you to connect several computers at once, anywhere in the house - or if you have a laptop, to even use your computer in the garden. You don’t need to install extra phone lines or cables.

How it Works?
Wi-Fi creates a network in your home or office – a little zone where computers can get broadband internet. It uses radio waves, just like TV or mobile phones. You may sometimes hear this zone referred to as a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network).

A device called a wireless transmitter receives information from the internet via your broadband connection. The transmitter converts the information into a radio signal and sends it.

You could think of the transmitter as a mini radio station, broadcasting signals sent from the internet. The ‘audience’ for these transmissions is the computer (or computers, as more than one can connect at the same time) which receives the radio signal via something called a wireless adapter.

The whole process, meanwhile, works in reverse, with the computer sending information to the wireless transmitter. It then converts them and sends them via your broadband connection.

Wi-Fi is increasingly becoming the preferred mode of internet connection all over the world. To access this type of connection, one must have a wireless adapter on their computer. Wi-Fi provides wireless connectivity by emitting frequencies between 2.4GHz to 5GHz based on the amount of data on the network. Areas which are enabled with Wi-Fi connectivity are known as Hot Spots. One can use advanced softwares like Wirelessmon to detect and request connection to Hotspots. To start a Wireless connection, it is important that the wireless router is plugged into the internet connection and that all the required settings are properly installed.

Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is an (LAN) local area networking technology designed to provide service in private Homes, Office and independent businesses.

Wi-Fi connections support millions of people in Building, Small office, homes and public locations around the world.

How it Works?

WiFi access point devices (another transmitter and receiver) are always connected to the internet so when you access a site you are automatically connected to the internet and do not need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as AOL, Verizon, NetZero, or the like. These you subscribe to if you want to access the internet from home. There you can get a wireless router so you don't have to be plugged in to the modem and you will have created your own wi-fi access point.

When you turn on the switch, the internal card is powered and searches for nearby sites. If it finds one, you will be connected unless it is a secure site and then you will need the encryption key.

When you join a Wi-Fi network and the access point is nearby, your device will typically connect at its maximum rated speed.
