Minimum Hardware Requirements:::
1.0 GHz CPU.
256 MBRAM.
20 GBhard drive.
24X CDROM reader.
14” XGA color LCD display.
1024 x 768 pixel resolution.
VGA output (to drive LCD projectors, monitors, displays).
10/100 -base -T Ethernet
IEEE 802.11b/g WiFi (for wireless access)
(802.11b will work, but you’ll only get 1/5 the performance ofa laptop and PCI card for a desktop, however USB will work.)
A mouse, trackball, or other pointing device (optical preferred).

Minimum Software Requirements
Microsoft Windows XP (SP2)operating system.
Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0
Anti virus software up to date virus definitions
Firewall software

Is it mandatory to have firewall software in WIFI
and in what category does WAP falls in hardware or software? As it not mentioned in Dianka last post.

A remote repeater interfaces with a switch or access focus. Frequently called sign supporters or range expanders, repeaters serve as a two-way hand-off station for remote radio signs.

What is basic Hardware and software requirements for wifi?

The basic wireless, peer-to-peer network consists of these components:

Wireless router: The heart of the wireless network is the wireless router. Like a wire-based network, the hub is a central location that all computers connect to, providing the computers with network access. The wireless hubs now available also serve as routers. Well, officially, wireless hubs are gateways, not routers, but they’re called routers. They’re also called access points, so get used to that term as well. Despite the nomenclature confusion, all you need to know is that the hub/router/access point is a smart little beast that helps manage wireless connections and also helps connect your wireless network to the Internet.

Wire-based connections: Almost every wireless router I’ve seen has one or more standard, wire-based Ethernet port. One port is used to connect the router to a broadband modem. Other Ethernet ports might be also available, allowing you to connect standard wire-based networking to the wireless hub.

Wireless NIC: Your computer needs a wireless network information card, or NIC, to talk with the wireless router. A laptop comes standard with a wireless NIC, but for a desktop PC you have to get a wireless NIC as an option. It’s installed internally as an expansion card, or you can use one of the various plug-in USB wireless NICs. That’s pretty much it for the infrastructure type of wireless network. The ad hoc type of wireless network is basically a group of wireless computers connected with each other. An ad hoc network has no central hub or router. Instead, all its computers can directly access other computers’ files and shared resources. They may or may not have Internet access, but that’s not the point of the ad hoc network.

WiFi 6

The new 802.11ax Wi-Fi standard was announced in April 2018, with the headline feature that it will support transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps – almost 10 times faster than previous mainstream standards. For everything on WiFi 6, including network speeds and availability. WiFi6 also supports connecting more devices at once. This might not have been an issue for you at home. But, when you’re out in public almost anywhere, there’s free WiFi to be had. Ever notice how if it was a crowded coffee shop, the data crawled? That will be improved by two technologies WiFi 6 will use: orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and multi-user multiple inputs, multiple output (MU-MIMO).

Ad hoc wireless connection – connection of a computer or peripheral to a network without the use of a wireless router or a router and a wireless access point; typically used for smaller networks, such as a home network.
802.xx standard – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) family of networking standards that covers the physical layer specifications of technologies from Ethernet to wireless. For example, 802.11 covers Wireless Local Area Network Media Access Control and Physical Layer specifications.

Installation/SystemRequirements

Ubuntu Desktop Edition
2 GHz dual core processor
4 GiB RAM (system memory)
25 GB of hard-drive space (or USB stick, memory card or external drive but see LiveCD for an alternative approach)
VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution
Either a CD/DVD drive or a USB port for the installer media
Internet access is helpful

Screen resolution will be set at the highest your graphics card can handle but when you boot-up you should be given a "Low graphics mode" option which allows you to set it to something better for your monitor.

On one hand, hardware produced in the last few years or with an efficient architecture or machines built for a specific purpose can often work well with less. For example, a netbook with an 8 GB SSD will work well although there wont be much room for saving stuff directly onto the drive so cloud storage services could help a lot. A machine with a crumbling, 15 year-old, slow, 8 GB, IDE hard-drive probably won't work and doesn't really compare with the netbook anyway. It might be worth trying Ubuntu but really start looking at other distros. On the other hand, some GNU/Linux distributions may require more powerful hardware as minimum system requirements, like the Ubuntu GNOME case.

All 64-bit (x86-64) CPUs should be fast enough to run Ubuntu and can run the 32-bit (x86) version as well. For an optimized installation (and especially for those wishing to run more than ~3 GiB of RAM) however, a 64-bit installation CD is available. The 32-bit version tends to be easier to use and runs into less problems. 32-bit ISO images are no longer being produced (as of 17.10).

Ubuntu Desktop 11.04 through 17.04 uses Unity as the default GUI while the previous releases used GNOME Panel by default. From 17.10 onwards the desktop uses GNOME Shell. In order to run these environments the system needs a more capable graphics adapter – see more here or below:

4096 MiB RAM (system memory) for physical installs.
2048 MiB RAM (system memory) for virtualised installs.
3D Acceleration Capable Videocard with at least 256 MB
