All the stores closed in London

All the stores closed in London on Boxing Day 2019 including Aldi, Boots, John Lewis, M&S, Waitrose, Lidl

On Christmas Day, more or less everything shuts down and we all cosy up to enjoy food, drink, presents and family time.

There's no chance of going shopping, even if you had the strange urge to, because everywhere shuts.Even in London, the only places that tend to be open are restaurants, pubs and a few attractions. Even these have different opening hours.

But when it comes to Boxing Day, that's a different story.

It's the Boxing Day sales, meaning lots of shops open again. But not all of them.

Definitely check before you zoom off to a shop so you don't make a wasted journey

Here's all the stores and other amenities that sadly won't open in London on Boxing Day.

    Aldi
Aldi announced that all its stores would be closed on Boxing Day this year, as they were in 2018.

It's the only major supermarket that's not opening at all on Boxing Day.

That means you won't be able to pop into your nearest Aldi to grab essentials or rummage in the SpecialBuys section on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Stores will be open as usual from 8am on Friday (December 27).

There's more than 800 Aldi stores around the UK, including loads inside the M25.

    Lidl
London is very lucky when it comes to Lidl.

All the Lidls outside the M25 will be closed on Boxing Day but in London they're going to be open from 10am to 7pm.

This could still vary from place to place, so do double check your individual Lidl store, but rest assured you'll probably be able to go if you need to.

    Home Bargains
Home Bargains will also be keeping the shutters down on Boxing Day "to ensure hard-working staff are able to enjoy the Christmas break".

The discount retailer will be letting its 22,000 staff have an extra day off.

The day isn’t taken out of holiday allowance, meaning workers still get paid while they spend time with their families.

Home Bargains will be resuming trading on December 27.

There are quite a few Home Bargains stores in the capital, although they tend to be in the outer boroughs, like Hounslow, Bexley, Ealing and Enfield.

    M&S
Marks and Spencer will be opening its bigger stores on Boxing Day, but not the smaller M&S branches that focus primarily on food.

So your big M&S shops in places like Oxford Street and Westfield and other places will certainly be open.

The exception is the M&S stores at BP petrol stations, which will also be open on Boxing Day.

    John Lewis
Department store chain John Lewis closes all its branches on Boxing Day every year.

That includes the huge John Lewis store on Oxford Street and the John Lewis stores in both the Westfield Shopping centres.

The retailer has long said this is to give their hard-working partners a rest over the festive holidays.

Last year, shoppers were able to take part in the store's clearance sale online from Christmas Eve - so keep an eye on the website if you want to grab any bargains.

    Waitrose
Waitrose is owned by the John Lewis Partnership and says the majority of its stores will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with the exception of those at Welcome Break motorway service stations and Shell forecourts (a few operate 24 hours).

So there are a few of these around London, but most of the Waitrose stores sadly won't open until December 27.

As Boxing Day is a bank holiday, that means that banks are closed, although though you can still use ATMs to withdraw and deposit money.

Royal Mail doesn't do any deliveries on Boxing Day so if that card or gift hadn't arrived in the post by Christmas Eve, there's no chance of it coming the day after Christmas Day.
