New Huawei Mate X model gets certified with 65W fast charging support

Foldable phones are a thing now, as you probably have noticed, and every smartphone manufacturer is looking into making their own implementation. Huawei came out with an implementation of its own called the Huawei Mate X. Due to US sanctions, though, the device only saw a release in their home Chinese market. But it brought a different implementation to other competitors such as the Motorola Razr and the Galaxy Fold. Whereas these devices folded inward (flip phone-style in the case of the Razr, notebook-style in the case of the Fold), the Mate X’s screen folds outward and wraps around the outside of the phone.

    Huawei Mate X XDA Forums

With up to 8 GB of RAM and a Kirin 980 for its brains, it also packs as much processing power as Huawei’s flagships did, and it’s due for a refresh next year. But while a full, next-generation product arrives, the device will also be receiving a slight refresh called the Mate Xs which features, among other things, a more up-to-date Kirin 990 processor. And this may just be the device that just went through the CCC, a Chinese regulatory agency. The listing shows a device from Huawei with model number TAH-AN00m (for reference, the Mate X’s codename is Tahiti or TAH for short), and the only apparent improvement revealed in the listing seems to be improved 20V/3.25A (65W) charging. 65W charging is rumored to be coming with Huawei’s upcoming Huawei P40 lineup, and it’s also rumored to be one of the Mate Xs’s purported features (the Mate X supports 55W charging).

The Huawei Mate Xs is expected to launch around the first quarter of 2020 following an announcement at the upcoming MWC 2020 event. The second-generation product, expected to launch as the Huawei Mate X2, should be launching in the second half of the year.

Huawei Mate Xs Receives 3C Certification Ahead of MWC 2020 Launch, 65W Fast Charging Support Tipped

Huawei recently confirmed that it will launch an updated version of the Mate X foldable phone – called the Huawei Mate Xs – in the first quarter of 2020. Now, the Huawei Mate Xs has reportedly received the mandatory 3C certification in China, which indicates that it will be unveiled soon. The Mate Xs is said to improve upon the Huawei Mate X by offering a faster processor, a refined hinge mechanism, and an overall more durable and resilient build, but the design will remain more or less the same as its predecessor.

ITHome reports that a Huawei phone carrying the model number TAH-AN00m, tipped to be the Huawei Mate Xs, has been certified by 3C in China. The phone's certification listing mentions that it will support 65W fast charging, putting it in the same league as Oppo's proprietary 65W charging technology that we recently saw on the Oppo Reno 3C, and will also see something similar on Xiaomi phones next year.

The Huawei Mate Xs has been confirmed to pack the in-house Kirin 990 SoC that comes with an integrated 5G modem with dual-mode 5G (SA + NSA) connectivity support. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate X came equipped with the Kirin 980 SoC with a separate Balong 5000 modem to allow 5G connectivity.

In addition to a faster processor, the Huawei Mate Xs is also said to bring some design changes compared to its predecessor, such as a more efficient hinge mechanism. Moreover, it will feature a more durable display technology compared to the Huawei Mate X. The design changes won't be major on the surface, but the Huawei Mate Xs will be a much faster phone on the inside and will possibly employ the HMS core without Google's suite of apps installed on the phone.

    Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro launched shortly after IFA 2019 back in September, but due to the prolonged disagreements between China and the US, Huawei still can’t ship their new phones with Google Apps. By all accounts, the phone has been extraordinarily successful in China and Huawei seem to be weathering the storm quite well, considering. The Mate 30 Pro has had limited launches outside of China but the UK with some European countries apparently indifferent to Google Services. Huawei now feels like it is time to let us Brits get our hands on the latest flagship, and yes, it is without and Google related software. With the P40 series launching in the next month or so, this could be Huawei testing to see how well their phones will do in the UK without Google. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will launch exclusively on with Carphone Warehouse on the 20th of February with pre-registration available from today, the phone has an RRP of £899 and Huawei are sweetening the deal with a bundled Huawei Watch GT 2 (46mm Black Sport Edition) and a pair of Huawei Freebuds 3 (White) while stocks last.

Pentagon Set To Push Additional Restrictions On Huawei

The Pentagon has decided to overturn its decision to block any further clampdowns on the Chinese tech giant Huawei. This latest development means that it would become increasingly difficult for US companies to supply materials to Huawei. A high-level meeting set to be attended by high-ranking officials including Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, is scheduled to take place on February 28th, where the final decision will be made.

Johnson Under Pressure From Key Allies Over Huawei Access To Uk 5g Network

A delegation of senior US officials – including Donald Trump’s acting chief of staff – are set to fly to London to raise their concerns directly with the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that MPs on Australia’s intelligence and security committee have pulled out of a visit to the UK next month following a diplomatic row with Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab. Mick Mulvaney, who is leading the US delegation, will call on the UK Government to change its decision on Huawei when they meet Mr Johnson in Downing Street on Wednesday. Mr Johnson has faced criticism for downgrading Britain’s presence at the event, with Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and MI6 Chief Alex Younger pulling out and newly-appointed Foreign Office Minister James Cleverly attending instead.
